Gracie Barra Lake Norman Ambassadors

Our Ambassador program represents the heart of our Lake Norman academy. These aren’t just students. They’re leaders who embody the Gracie Barra philosophy both on and off the mats, training an average of 4-5 times per week and dedicating at least 20 hours monthly to supporting our community.

We select Ambassadors based on three core criteria our instructors have refined over 15 years of teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Technical skill matters, but character matters more. Our Ambassadors demonstrate consistent technique progression, typically achieving belt promotions 6 months ahead of standard timelines. They also show unwavering commitment to helping newer students, often arriving 30 minutes early to assist with fundamentals classes.

Each Ambassador commits to specific responsibilities that strengthen our Lake Norman family. They mentor white and blue belt students during open mat sessions every Saturday morning. They represent our academy at regional tournaments, competing at least twice per year in gi and no-gi divisions. Most importantly, they uphold the respect and discipline that Professor Carlos Gracie Jr. established when he founded Gracie Barra in 1986.

Our current Ambassador team includes 12 dedicated members across all belt levels. Sarah Martinez, a purple belt who joined us three years ago, now leads our women’s self-defense workshops twice monthly. James Chen, our youngest Ambassador at 16, has won gold medals in three IBJJF youth tournaments while maintaining a 4.2 GPA. These individuals prove that jiu-jitsu excellence extends far beyond the academy walls.

Becoming an Ambassador requires nomination by our head instructor and approval from at least two black belt professors. We evaluate candidates every six months during our formal review process. The selection process examines training consistency, attitude toward teammates, competition performance, and contributions to our Lake Norman community outreach programs.

Our Ambassadors receive exclusive benefits that recognize their dedication. They access advanced seminars with visiting black belts, including monthly sessions with Professor Flavio Almeida from our headquarters. They also receive discounted seminar fees, priority registration for camps, and complimentary Gracie Barra merchandise twice yearly.

We’re proud of every Ambassador who represents our Lake Norman academy. Their commitment transforms individual technique into collective strength, creating the supportive environment where every student can achieve their jiu-jitsu goals.
